Obituary of Isabel A.M. Knoll

Thurman: Isabel Giampietro-Knoll, 92, formerly of New York City, passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 by her son’s side at his home in Thurman. Born in Marsicovetere-Potenza, Italy on October 23, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Matilde (Zito) Giampietro. Isabel moved to the United States in 1928 and received her BA at Manhattanville College; Cum Laude. She studied under the famous artist Romagnoli at the Scuola Dell’ Arte Della Madaglia in Rome. She was a graduate of La Zecca Medallic Art, and the Fine Arts Academy in Rome. She also received a certificate from Konstfachskolan in Stockholm, Sweden from 1955-1956. She was employed as a glass designer for Gullaskufs Glassworks in Sweden and Royal Leerdam in Holland. She exhibited her work in Utrecht Museum in the Netherlands, as well as numerous International Fairs in Brussels, Hannover, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, and Milan. She received numerous awards throughout her distinguished career to include: A gold medal nominee at the Milan, Italy Trienalle XI; World Expo in Brussels, 1958 Gran Prix; and most recently at the Alan Moss gallery in NYC, as well as the Corcoran Gallery in Washington D.C. She is represented by her work in several permanent collections at the Corning Museum of Glass in NYC; The Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C.; and the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art in NYC. Aside from her glassworks, she was also an accomplished sculptor. She was contracted by Eastman Kodak Company for the Bicentennial of 76’ for a bronze relief of George Washington, which hung at a temporary facility at the Washington Monument during the 1976 Bicentennial. It is now on permanent display at the National Masonic Memorial in Alexandria, VA. Additionally, she was a national Endowment of the Arts Grantee in 1978, for continuance of her work. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her brother, Alexander Giampietro. She leaves behind her son, Andrew Knoll of Thurman; granddaughter, Dakota of Brewster; and her sister, Connie Annucci. We will miss her dearly. There are no calling hours scheduled. Funeral services will be conducted privately at the convenience of the family in the St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY.
