Obituary of Delrose D. Moore

RIPARIUS Delrose Dempsey Moore, 84, of East Hudson River Drive passed away, Monday, February 26, 2007, at Eden Park Nursing Home in Glens Falls. Born March 6, 1922, in Vintondale, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of James and Zula (Kinter) Dempsey. Mrs. Moore attended schools in Vintondale and Meadville, Pennsylvania. She was licensed as a cosmetologist in 1971 and operated The Pink Vanity beauty shop in partnership in West Glens Falls for a number of years, later keeping a shop in her home in South Glens Falls. During World War II, she was actively involved in the production of flight jackets, torpedoes, and parts for the Norden bomb sight. Mrs. Moore was a member of the New York State Hairdressers Association, the Home Bureau, and the Girl Scouts. For many years she served as a Girl Scout leader for troops in South Glens Falls; later she acted as a mentor and consultant for leaders there and in the Riparius-Minerva area. A long time member of the South Glens Falls United Methodist Church, Mrs. Moore was involved with the Merry Marthas, the Women’s Society of Christian Service, was a popular volunteer at church suppers and activities, and served for a number of years as a Sunday School teacher. When she moved to Riparius, Mrs. Moore joined the Grace Methodist Church. Mrs. Moore was fond of the Riparius community and appreciated the assistance of family, friends and neighbors there in maintaining her independence. She also made friends in the Ticonderoga area during extended visits with family there. Throughout her life, Mrs. Moore maintained a variety of interests including, oil painting, writing poetry, and crafting. She was an avid reader and an incomparable cook. To the many “kids” she fed and loved over the years, she was affectionately known as “Moosie.” Mrs. Moore is predeceased by her husband of twenty-seven years, Edward L. Moore, her parents, as well as four brothers and a sister. She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Anderson Farr of Riparius, a daughter and son-in-law, Amy (Moore) and Karl Crannell of Ticonderoga, three grand-daughters Lori Clark (Dan)of Gansevoort, Cheryl Brown (Richard) of Queensbury, Wendy Meissner (Bill) of Greenfield; five great-grandchildren, Michaela and Caleb Clark, Travis and Heath Brown, Meghan Meissner; a sister-in law, Jane Dempsey of Arizona; niece “Sue” Farmer, to whom she was always “Aunt Mum,” nieces Donna Gray, Darlene Kaye, all of Meadville, Pennsylvania; nephews Ronnie Dempsey and Fred Linz of Meadville, Gary Dempsey of Arizona and William Kimmel of Arizona, and several cousins, particularly Jean Kinter of Meadville, and Kathryn Kinter of Maryland. Mrs. Moore also wished to acknowledge the friendship and support of her brother-in-law and his wife, William and Jane Moore of Amsterdam, and “the sister of her heart,” Ara Slingluff of Meadville; and not least, her friends Jean and Fred Gleason and Becky Andrus who remained loyal and frequent visitors during her last years. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to those members of the Eden Park staff in Glens Falls who went above and beyond normal duties in their care and kindness toward Delrose. Mrs. Moore expressed the wish that memorial donations be made to organizations and charities supporting children, particularly Feed the Children, PO Box 36 Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73101-0036, to which she contributed for many years. The family adds that memorial books and contributions to your local library would also be very appropriate. Friends may call on Delrose’s family from 7-9 pm Thursday evening at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A brief celebration of remembrance will be held at 8 pm during the visitation at the funeral home. A memorial service and hymn sing will be held during the summer at a time and place to be announced.
