Obituary of Doris Beverly Fish
WARRENSBURG: Doris B. (Cameron) Fish, 93, of Warrensburg, NY, passed away on January 1, 2025, at Fort Hudson Nursing Center, with her beloved granddaughter, Mary, by her side.
Doris was born on December 5, 1931, at her home in Warrensburg, NY, to the late Duncan and Myrtle (Needham) Cameron. She grew up in Warrensburg and lived there her entire life. At the age of 16, Doris married David Nelson and gave birth to their first of 12 children in 1948. Despite raising a large family, Doris worked for 30 years as a waitress at Howard Johnson’s in Lake George. She was told she had to retire because she was 'too old,' but that didn’t stop her. Doris went on to own and operate the White Pine Diner in Wevertown for 23 years before retiring.
Each year, Doris closed the White Pine Diner for a month to go camping at Bulwagga Bay, her happy place. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, taking cruises, and spending her winters in Kissimmee, FL.
In addition to her parents and first husband, David Nelson, Doris was predeceased by her children Bonnie Monroe, Harry Fish, Ronnie Fish, Dale Warrington, Brenda Truesdale, and Tammy Fish, as well as her sister, Marie Lloyd.
Doris is survived by her children Michael (Judy) Fish, Jennifer (Dan) Steeg, Rick (Lisa) Fish, Greg Fish and his partner Bonnie Farmer, Monty Fish and his partner Alexis Alger, and Daveen Fish and her partner Wayne Steves; more than 40 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Doris' devoted granddaughter, Mary Cochran, for the incredible time, care, and compassion she gave to Doris throughout her final years. Mary's unwavering support and loving presence were a true blessing, and the family will forever be grateful for the kindness and dedication she showed."
Memorial donations in Doris' name may be made to the Fort Hudson Activity Fund, 319 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828.
