Obituary of David E. Doherty
LAKE GEORGE: David E. Doherty, 52, of Lake George, NY, passed away peacefully at home after a courageous 3-year battle with cancer.
David “Dave” was born September 4, 1971, in Princeton, NJ to Leonard and Kathryn Doherty. Dave was raised in Yardley, Pennsylvania and graduated from Pennsbury High School in 1990. He continued his education at Penn State eventually transferring to the United States Air Force. Dave served eight years, four of which he lived abroad in England as well as serving time in Saudi Arabia, Germany, Panama and Italy. Dave was honorably discharged as a Senior Airman, Aircraft Electronics and Environmental Systems Specialist.
After leaving the military, he continued his career working for major companies such as Bombardier and Mitsubishi, building and repairing diesel and electric trains. Eventually Dave’s career took him to New York City, first working as the Assistant Manager for Mechanical Engineers for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. After a few years, Dave decided to fulfill his dream of driving a train, going through an extensive 18-month program to become a Locomotive Engineer for Metro-North. His primary route was driving the Hudson Line from Grand Central Station to Poughkeepsie, NY.
After leaving Metro-North, Dave loved spending time with his family, particularly the light of his life, his daughter Ella. His hobbies included computers and technology, playing guitar, traveling, music, movies and hiking. In his final months, he developed a passion for collecting pocketknives and reviewing them on his YouTube channel with over 2K views. Recently, Dave vacationed on Anna Maria Island in Florida, enjoying a beachfront stay, one of his last wishes. Throughout his treatment, Dave maintained his sense of humor, kindness, intelligence and amazing technical ability to fix things.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jennifer Wood and daughter, Ella Doherty; parents Leonard and Kathryn Doherty; sister Susan Raimondi and her husband John; nephew and niece, Nicholas and Elizabeth Raimondi; mother-in-law Diane Wood; sister-in-law Darlene Wood and her partner Coby McDonald, nephews Colin and Gavin McMahon and other extended loved ones and friends.
Donations can be made in Dave’s memory to the nonprofit cancer organization Waves of Grace, 1217 Chickasaw Drive, Brentwood, TN 37027.
