I love you Dave. You were my first fiend when I showed up in the dorms at RAF Mildenhall in 1996. You made my transition easy by being an insta-friend. You were so cool, so smart and so…Dave. Witty as hell, honest, smart, and such a good guy. Did I mention cool? Dave was always two steps ahead with the new PC and internet thing, it made my head spin. And he knew the best new music before anyone else. Humility, humor and loyalty to fiends were Dave’s hallmarks. When we both left the AF, we settled in New Hampshire and Upstate NY respectively. I made two trips his way and he made two my way. I ultimately left the area and we lost touch, but I can honestly say I thought of Dave often through the years, as he’s the kind of guy who leaves a mark in all the right ways. I’ve cried more today than any time in my life, as it’s particularly gutting as a fellow girl-dad. But as the day turns to night, I am filled with the joy of knowing his soul lives on and will guide Ella throughout her life. There is no doubt he prepared her to be just as amazing a person as he was, and he will live on though her. God bless Dave Doherty.
