Wevertown:
CLAIRE DEMAS of Wevertown passed away at age 75.
Claire was predeceased by her parents, Mildred and Al Barklow, and her husband, Kenneth.
Claire was born in Medford, NJ and attended Lenape High School and then East Stroudsburg University where she majored in Education. Claire met Ken when they were both counselors at Camp Echo Lake in Warrensburg, NY. They bonded over their love of the outdoors and the Adirondacks. Along with Ken, Claire enjoyed a long career teaching physical education in the Mamaroneck School system. Claire loved children, and leaves behind her own adored children, Collin and Corey. Claire was a long-distance swimmer and an award-winning swim coach. She loved to hike, camp, and ski.
In retirement she and Kenneth moved to their beloved Adirondacks, where their home was always open to family and friends. Claire and Ken could whip up a meal for 18 with a smile. They traveled the world, often with friends, visiting Latvia, Egypt, China, Turkey and Italy. At home Claire was easy to find – you just had to listen for whistling or humming. Together with Ken, she shared her love of the mountains and their camp on Indian Lake with the whole family.
Claire is survived by her brothers-in-law Joseph and Robert, sister-in-law Reary, nieces Reary, Jody and Jamie, and her devoted grandnephews Johnny, Dylan, and Ethan. She was loved and will be missed.
A celebration of Claire's life will be held in the Adirondacks at a future date.
