Obituary of Lenore R. Smith

Warrensburg: Lenore R. Smith, 98, of Elm Street, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Glens Falls Hospital, following a brief illness. Born May 4, 1917 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Cordelia (McElroy) Rice. Lenore was a graduate of Warrensburg Central School, Class of 1935. She was fortunate to find employment in the midst of the Great Depression, with the New York Telephone, where she worked for over 38 years, retiring in 1977. Following her retirement, Lenore’s biggest endeavor was founding and operating Riverside Gallery on the Schroon River in Warrensburg; something she prided on running for over 25 years. Her hobbies included bowling, golf, and raising koi angel fish. She also loved flowers, as her gardens attested. Lenore was a longtime member of the Telephone Pioneers, the Warrensburg Historical Society, and was on the Warrensburg Beautification Committee for many years. She married Wilford J. Smith on June 28, 1940. In addition to her parents, and late husband, “Woody”, Lenore was predeceased by her step-sister, Norma Turpin. She is survived by a daughter, Lynne (Orson) Richards; grandson, MacLaren (Kathleen) Richards; two great-grandchildren, Breaden and MacLaren Richards; a sister, Shirley Fisher; niece, Susan Miller; nephew, Robert Fisher; and step-sister, Marie Fisher Friends may call on Lenore’s family from 2 to 4 pm, Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 11 am, Monday, at The Church of the Holy Cross, 3764 Main St., Warrensburg, with Rev. Thomas Pettigrew presiding. Burial will follow in Warrensburg Cemetery.
