Lake George:
James H. Corkland, 94, of Birch Avenue, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2017, of natural causes, at the William Child's Hospice House in Palm Bay, FL.
He was born February 17, 1922 in Fort Edward.
In 1941, Jim enlisted in United States Army Infantry, honorably serving his country in Europe and North Africa. Upon his return stateside he married Mary C. “Betty” Chambers on October 20, 1945 in Lake George.
Jim dedicated his life to serving his community and others. He was Lake George Town Justice from 1971 to 2006. He served with the Lake George Village and Town Police from 1949 to 1971. He was also a member of the Lake George Emergency Squad for many years and taught future EMTs. The source of his fondest memories was his long career as an English teacher at Hadley Luzerne Central School for over a quarter century. He was also a member of the Lake George Rotary and Lake George American Legion.
After his wife, Betty's passing he enjoyed spending time with his friends at the American Legion.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife of 68 years, and a daughter, Kathleen, who passed away at the age of two.
He is survived by his oldest daughter, Mary Beth Corkland and her husband, Jeff MacMakin, of Palm Bay FL.
Friends may call on James’ family from 4 to 7 pm, Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
Burial will take place privately, at the convenience of the family in Evergreen Cemetery, Lake George.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in James’ memory to Lake George Emergency Squad, 24 Gage Road, Lake George, NY 12845.
