Obituary of Carroll W. Rawson

Carroll W. Rawson, 78, of State Rt. 28, passed away, Friday, June 25, 2010 at the Glens Falls Hospital.
Born June 1, 1932 in Middlebury, VT, he was the son of the late Lee and Lora (Hubbard) Rawson and was raised on the Rawson family dairy farm in Whiting, VT.
He went on to graduate from Brandon, VT High School in 1950.
Carroll married Norma Noxon on October 16, 1955 and the couple resided in Whiting, VT, for a few years while Carroll continued working the family farm.
In 1959, Carroll and Norma returned to the Johnsburg area and began raising their own family. They both became integral parts of Norma’s parents business, Braley and Noxon Hardware on Main St., North Creek and eventually took over the store continuing with the help of their children for many years before retiring.
Carroll also served as the Johnsburg Deputy Town Clerk under his late father in law, Ernest Noxon and his wife for many years.
Carroll was very active in his community as a 30 year member of the North Creek Vol. Fire Co. and Johnsburg EMS. He served one term on the Johnsburg Central School Board, was a member of the Johnsburg Fish and Game Club and belonged to the Shoreham, VT Free and Accepted Masons.
His favorite pastimes included spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren, operating CB radios, gardening, hunting, archery, snowmobiling and motorcycling.
Besides his parents, his brother, Edgar W. Rawson and his sister, Elizabeth Matot and her husband, Wade have all predeceased him.
Carroll leaves behind his beloved wife of 55 years, Norma N. Rawson of Wevertown; his children, William E. Rawson and his wife, Susan of North Creek, Charles W. Rawson of North Creek, and Mary E. Cooper and her husband, Kyle of Wevertown; his grandchildren, Lyndsey M. Rawson of Boston, MA, Sara E. Rawson and Ethan M. Cooper both of Wevertown; his cousin, Jane Denton Parliman of Keene, NH.
Friends may call on Carroll’s family from 4:00 to 5:30 pm, Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at the Johnsburg United Methodist Church. Members of the Fire Co. and EMS will gather at the church to pay their respects.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will follow the visitation at the church with the Rev. Jackie Mueller, Pastor and the Rev. David Newkirk co-officiating.
Burial will take place in the East Shoreham Cemetery in Shoreham, VT at the convenience of the family.
