Obituary of Michael John Gregory

Chestertown: Michael John Gregory, 49, of Friends Lake Rd, passed into the arms of our Lord Wednesday, August 7, 2013. He leaves behind his beloved wife Pauline (Shumek) Gregory. Born November 14, 1963, in Newcomb, he was the son of the late Helen I. (Lawrence) and William I. Gregory, Sr. Mike grew up in Newcomb and attended Newcomb Central High School. He served one tour of duty with the United States Army in the early 1980’s. Aside from his time in the Army and one year exploring Alaska, Mike spent his life in his cherished Adirondacks. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, 4 wheeling, and skiing. He also enjoyed NASCAR; his favorite drivers were Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Kyle Bush. On several occasions Mike had the opportunity to participate in the Richard Petty Driving Experience at "The Lady in Black", Darlington Raceway at speeds up to 170 mph… What a ride!! Anyone who knew Mike quickly learned he lived life to the fullest and was a hard charger. Mike was also a tinkerer and Mr. Fix It. He earned the nickname "Mike Gyver" for his ability to come up with solutions to complex problems. Besides his wife, Pauline, Mike is survived by his brother William “Bill” Gregory, Jr. of North Carolina; a sister, Carolyn Hall of Fort Ann, and his beloved dog, Emma. Calling hours will be held from 1 to 4 pm, Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Monday, at St. Therese’s Roman Catholic Church, Adams Lane, Newcomb, with Fr. Peter Berg, Pastor officiating.
