Obituary of Doreen M. Cooper

Warrensburg:
Doreen M. Cooper, 89, of Elm Street, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 21, 2014 at The Stanton Nursing & Rehabilitation Centre, following a long illness.
Born August 17, 1925 in the United Kingdom, she was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Gorman) Flatman.
She married John E. Cooper, an American Soldier stationed in England at the end of WWII, on December 20, 1945. The couple originally moved to Chestertown, John’s home town, before relocating to Warrensburg a year later.
Throughout the years, Doreen was employed by the Friends Lake Inn, Green Mansions Golf Course, and the Warrensburg Central School for many years.
She was a dedicated member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and enjoyed volunteering her time with North Country Ministries and the Board of Elections.
Doreen will be remembered by sitting on her porch, alongside her husband, John, and being active with several community events.
Besides her parents, Doreen was predeceased by a daughter, Pamela, son, Michael, grandson, Matthew, a sister, Mary, and three brothers, Brian and John, Derrick.
She is survived by a son, David Cooper, and his wife, Debra, of Chaparral, NM; daughters, Jayne Cupp, and her husband, Paul, and Stephanie Brown, and her husband, Joseph, all of Warrensburg; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Shelia Mauer of Niagara Falls; and brother, Dennis Flatman of England. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call on Doreen’s family from 5 to 8 pm, Thursday, September 25, 2014, at Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
Members of the American Legion and Ladies Auxiliary will be gathering during the visitation to pay their final respects.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, Friday, at St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic Church, 3802 Main St., Warrensburg, with Fr. Paul Cox presiding.
Rite of Committal will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon, Saratoga National Cemetery, in Schuylerville.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in Doreen’s memory to the Renal Center at Glens Falls Hospital, 3 Broad Street, Glens Falls, NY 12801 or the American Legion Post Auxiliary #446, 18 Hudson St., Warrensburg, NY 12885.
