Obituary of Charles B. Straight

Lake George: Charles B. Straight, 84, of Pine Grove Avenue, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga following a long illness. Born October 30, 1933 in Lake George, he was the son of the late Byron and Jennie (Mosher) Straight. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended Lake George Central School. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1953 and proudly served his country overseas during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1955. He married his high school sweetheart, Mildred O’Dell of Lake George on June 26, 1955 at the Lake George United Methodist Church. He began his working years employed by his father-in-law, Joseph O’Dell with the Town of Lake George, where he remained for 14 years until transferring to the village of Lake George where he remained for over 20 years as a heavy equipment operator. Charles also performed the landscaping for several local banks, including Glens Falls National and First National in Lake George. His greatest joy in life was his beloved wife, his six daughters and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed camping with his many friends, traveling the United States with his family and creating many unforgettable memories along the way. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Charles will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his sisters, Dorothy Savage, DeEtta VanGuilder, and Beatrice VanGuilder and brothers, Robert and James Straight. He is also predeceased by his in-laws, Joseph and Ruth O’Dell. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Mildred Straight of Lake George; his six daughters, Tina Keech and her husband, Frederick of Hudson Falls, Sharon Eggleston and her husband, James of Queensbury, Bonnie Varnum and her husband, Calvin of Lake George, Brenda Hilton and her husband, Robert of Lake George, Connie Howk and her husband, Terry of Queensbury, and Lisa Caivano and her husband, Michael of Moreau; ten grandchildren, Frederick Keech, Jr., Jeramy Keech, Jessica Cuva, Erin Clark, Kelly Dickinson, Jodi Howk, Randy Hilton, James Hilton, and Raven Barrientos, Emily Caivano and Momo Eggleston; great-grandchildren, Nathan and Owen Keech, Robyn Height, Isaiah, Joey, and Abby Cuva, Salena Dickinson, Carter Ricciardelli, Elliot, Emmett, and Mia Hilton, Xavier, Linnea, and Alida Hilton, Ashley, Laney and Josey Barrientos; great-great-grandson, Cypress Cuva; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends, Dean and Marsha Myers of Granville and Lorraine of Rochester. Friends may call on Charles’s family from 1 to 4 pm, Sunday, January 14, 2018 at the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be conducted at 11 am, Monday, at the Lake George United Methodist Church, 78 Montcalm St., Lake George with Rev. Nellie Hintz, Rev. Arnold Stevens, and Rev. Kimberly Townsend, officiating. Burial will be conducted in the spring in Evergreen Cemetery, Lake George.
