Obituary of James E. Shaw

North River: James E. Shaw, 75, of Barton Mines Road, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at his home following a long illness. Born April 22, 1931 in Albany, he was the son of the late Henry and Nellie (Freebern) Shaw. Following his high school graduation from North Creek High School, Jim worked as a lab technician with Barton Mines Corp. before entering the US Army in April of 1952. Following his military service, he spent 17 years as a chemical operator with Hoffmann-LaRoche in Nutley, NJ. He married Judith Formicola Shaw on July 4, 1986. The couple owned and operated JASCO Minerals in North River. Besides collecting and selling precious stones and minerals, Jim also enjoyed fly fishing, hunting and collecting firearms. He was a very active member of the North Creek American Legion Post 629 and held the position as Post Commander for 10 years. Besides his parents, his step mother, Ella “Dolly” Shaw; his half brother, Henry Shaw Jr. have both predeceased him. Survivors include his wife, Judy of 21 years; his daughter, Therese Smith and her husband, David of Derry, PA; grandchildren, Sarah, Rebecca and Luke; great grandson, Michael; nephew, Clarence, many cousins and his beloved pets, especially Toby and Cody. Friends may call on Jim’s family from 2-4 pm Saturday at the Alexander Funeral Home, Inc, 4479 State Rt. 28, North River. The North Creek American Legion Post 629 will conduct services at 4 pm following the visitation Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may take the form of donations to the North Creek American Legion Post 629, North Creek, NY 12853.
