Obituary of Lena A. Squires

Warrensburg: Lena A. Squires, 96, formerly of Pine Tree Lane, passed away, Monday, October 2, 2006 at the Adirondack Tri-County Health Care Center in North Creek. Born August 10, 1910 in Thurman, she was the daughter of Nathan and Bertha (King) Ingraham. As a young girl, Lena attended a one room schoolhouse in Thurman followed by two years in the Warrensburg school system. At 16, she took a job in Warrensburg taking care of a family of six. At age 18, she started as a waitress at Hall’s Restaurant in Warrensburg and met her husband to be, Vernon A. Squires, whom she married on September 13, 1930 in Lake Placid. Lena also worked at Mario’s Restaurant in Lake George, was a local seamstress for many in the area and cooked at the county jail before enjoying her time as a private duty nurse for various families in Warrensburg in the 1970’s and 80’s. She was a longtime member of the Warrensburg First United Methodist Church and was a past president of the former Hackensack Rebekah Lodge. She enjoyed competing in bowling league tournaments and her needlework. Her husband, Vernon, passed away on April 23, 1966 after 36 years of marriage. Her three daughters, Beverly Pavelich, Sally Hermance and Mary Durkin; her son, Charles A. Squires; two sisters, Frances Richards, and Julia Higgins; four brothers, Roscoe, Gilbert, Basil and Edgar Ingraham have all predeceased her. Survivors include her two sons, Jerry A. Squires and his wife, Joan of Warrensburg; Rudolph B. Squires and his wife, Denise of Warrensburg; one brother, Alfred Ingraham of Athol; one sister, Helen Colson of Corinth; son in law, George Pavelich of Ticonderoga; 16 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call on Lena’s family from 5-7 pm Thursday evening at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. Members of the Warrensburg Vol. Fire Company will gather and pay their respects at 6:30 pm during the visitation. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 7 pm with the Rev. Dawn Robbins, Pastor of the Warrensburg First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will take place in the Warrensburg Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
