Lynne Smith Richards, 73, of Moore Road, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at her home.
Born July 31, 1943, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Wilford (Woody) John and Lenore R. (Rice) Smith.
Lynne was a graduate of Warrensburg Central School, Class of 1961. She went on to further her education, graduating from Baldwin Wallace University in 1965, and from Albany Medical College in 1966 with a degree in Medical Technology. She was employed by Albany Medical Center in the Special Hematology Laboratory until 1968, before working as a Medical Technologist at Brookview Medical Group with Dr. John Skiff and Dr. Henry Hosley. After leaving the medical field, Lynne started Lynne Dee’s Gallery in a historic house on Route 4 in East Greenbush; retiring in 2011 and leaving the business to her son.
Lynne married Orson M. “Larry” Richards in 1967.
Her passions included gardening, knitting and silver smithing. She belonged to the Greenbush, Warrensburg, and Chestertown Historical Societies, and was a Guild member in the Historical Society of Early American Decoration in 1993, which requires submission of two completed pieces to be judged. She taught students in the HSEAD disciplines, which include Country Painting, Stenciling, Reverse Painting on Glass, Clock Dials, Pontypool, Victorian Flower Painting, and Therorem Painting; Lynne was also the editor of their biannual publication, The Decorator, and the photography chairman for several years.
She is survived by her husband, Orson Richards of East Greenbush; a son, MacLaren (Kathleen) Richards; and two grandchildren, Braeden and MacLaren Richards.
Friends may call on Lynne’s family from 4 to 6 pm, Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Church of the Holy Cross, 3764 Main St., Warrensburg.
A Requiem Mass will immediately follow the visitation at 6 pm at the church.
Her family will also be hosting a gathering in Lynne’s memory from 1 to 4 pm, Sunday, January 8, 2017 at D’lish Catering and Events, 674 Columbia Turnpike, East Greenbush, NY 12061.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donation to the Warrensburg Museum of Local History, c/o Steve Parisi, 3754 Main St., Warrensburg, NY 12885.
