I was a grade school teacher many years ago at the elementary school in Brant Lake. Ricky and Ray Hays were our custodians. You could not ask for better guardians of our school. Ricky loved interacting with the children. One year, I assigned a task to my students to build a simple machine. One little one had no help at home building a simple machine. I told Ricky about this child's dilemma. Ricky immediately said, "I'll take him out to the workshop and build one with him." They built the neatest little pulley system ever that lifted small items on a hook. The student could demonstrate and tell how the system worked with out hesitation. They both got an "A" in my book. Ricky was awesome.
So sorry to hear about Rick. He was such a great help to me at the Brant Lake School. He was always willing and able to tackle anything I asked of him. It sounds like his last years were filled with joy in his friends and grandchildren and hopefully his family can take comfort in that.
