Hilda D. Roden, 91, of Trout Lake Club Road, passed away peacefully, Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Fort Hudson Nursing Center surrounded by her loving family.
Born January 9, 1927 in Meadows of Dan, VA, she was the daughter of the late Harmon and Cassie (Nolan) DeHart and grew up on a farm alongside her two sisters and two brothers.
Hilda left Virginia and spent some time in Washington D. C. working for the defense department during World War II. From D. C. she moved to New York City where she met her husband, William M. Roden. The couple wed on March 31, 1950 and shortly after, moved to Trout Lake in the Adirondacks. Together they took over the family business, Trout Lake Club.
She was an active member in the Bolton community and served several years on the school board. She loved reading books and was a member of the book club for over 60 years with her many friends.
Hilda and her husband, Bill built a house on the only island on Trout Lake where they raised their four children.
Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her beloved husband, William “Bill” Roden.
She is survived by her three sons, William “Mike” Roden and his wife, Laura, Mark Roden and Andrew Roden; her daughter Sarah Orr; her loving grandchildren, Rachel and Chris Webster, Matthew Roden, Cassie and Andy Barringer, Michael Roden, Jay and Regina Roden, Amanda and Chad Scheidegger, Chris Roden, Laurel Erath, and Leah Orr; great-granddaughter, Margot Barringer; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call on Hilda’s family from 4 to 7 pm, Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
At Hilda’s request, funeral services will be conducted privately at the convenience of her family.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Bolton Volunteer Fire Company or the Bolton Volunteer Rescue Squad.
