Obituary of William M. Heid

Johnsburg: William “Bill” M. Heid, 84, of Garnet Lake Road, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, February 15, 2013 at the Glens Falls Hospital after being stricken at his home. Born January 20, 1929 in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Anton and Annie (Muller) Heid. Bill spent his youth living in Brooklyn and later, Bayside, LI where he met and eventually married his beloved wife of 53 years, Theresa M. Soucy. The couple eventually relocated to the Adirondack’s where he was employed as an auto mechanic. Bill later began working as a logger until 1969 when he and his wife started Heid’s Hodaka Motorcycle Shop in Johnsburg which is still in business today. The business was also a longtime certified BMW and Polaris dealership as well. Besides spending time with his family which includes his grandsons, Bill enjoyed trapping, fishing in Garnet Lake and Canada, touring on his motorcycle and snowmobile with his wife. During their travels, the couple managed to visit nearly every Province in Canada and much of the Northern United States. He was a longtime member of the Adirondack Rider’s of Glens Falls, the Garnet Lake Volunteer Fire Department, life member of the American Motorcycle Association and the National Trappers Association. Bill spent many years instructing at local snowmobile courses. He is survived by his beloved wife, Theresa Heid of Johnsburg; his sons: Paul and his wife, Deborah, Philip and Peter Heid, all of Johnsburg; two grandsons, Anthony and Ian Heid; his brother, Joseph Heid and his wife, Marian and their children of Greenlawn, Long Island. Friends may call on Bill’s family from 4 to 7 pm Monday, February 18, 2013, at the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A funeral service to celebrate his life will follow the visitation at 7 pm, Monday at the funeral home with Fr. John O’Kane of St. James RC Church in North Creek officiating. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Garnet Lake Volunteer Fire Department or the Johnsburg EMS.
