Obituary of Alan W. Hall

Hadley: Alan W. “Duffer” Hall, 72, passed away peacefully, January 31, 2009, at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany, following a three year battle with cancer. Born October 10, 1936 in Warrensburg, he was the son of the late Meade and Grace (Stone) Hall. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962, where he was stationed in Germany. He married Alice Lee Ovitt, the daughter of the late Forrest and Bertha Ovitt on July 16, 1960. Alan worked at the former Warrensburg Board and Paper Mill, the Tagson Paper Mill, and American Tissue in Mechanicville until his retirement in 1998. He and his wife enjoyed wintering in Lakeland, FL for seven years until his illness wouldn’t allow him to do so. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and a big Dale Earnhardt Sr. NASCAR fan. Besides his parents, Alan is predeceased by his brothers-in-law: William Ovitt, Teddy Ackery, and Dempsey Baker. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Alice Hall; their children: Jeff Hall and his wife, Jean (Bushway) of Greenwich; Missy Lindblade and her husband, John of Hadley; Larry Hall and his wife, Brenda (Dean) of Leesburg, OH; and Jamie Hall and his wife, Becky (Koren) of Dover, DE; his brothers: Robert Hall and his wife, Shirley of Pittsfield, MA; David Hall and his wife, Kathy of Ft. Meyers, FL; sisters: Alice Ackery of Warrensburg; Barbara Baker of Warrensburg; Betty Peck and her husband, Clark of Thurman; along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins and his cat, Snot Box. Friends may call on Duffer’s family from 1-3 and 6-8 pm, Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A funeral service to celebrate his life will follow the visitation at 8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home, with Rev. Richard Leonard, Pastor of the Warrensburg Free Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will take place in the Glassbrook Cemetery, Stony Creek at the convenience of the family.
