Obituary of James A. Monroe

Brant Lake and Trenton, FL: James A. Monroe, 87, of Pease Hill Rd., passed away, Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at the Ayers Nursing Home in Trenton, FL following a short illness. Born December 25, 1918 in Ticonderoga, he was the son of the late Frank and Bessie (Hayes) Monroe. Jim was a US Army veteran during WW II and served in the European Theater of Operations, he landed in Normandy on June 12, 1944 and served through Berlin. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He married Jenniemay (Hill) Goodrich on February 8, 1947. The couple resided in Chestertown, Warrensburg and Brant Lake and wintered in Trenton, FL. In his early years, he was a lumberman and farmed the land. He went on to become a mechanic with NYS DOT for 22 years before retiring in 1980. Jim was a former member of the Chestertown Vol. Fire Co. and also was a member of the Warrensburg Vol. Fire Co. for 21 years. He was a member of the Warrensburg First United Methodist Church and was an avid outdoorsman. Jim was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Jenniemay Hill Goodrich Monroe; his brother, Eugene M. Monroe and his sister, Ann Bolton. He is survived by his two sons, David G. Goodrich and his wife, Anita of Warrensburg, Donald A. Goodrich and his wife, Gail of Bluffton, SC; his sister, Alice Harrington of Warrensburg; five grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call 6-9 pm Sunday evening at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. Members of the Warrensburg Vol. Fire Co. will gather and hold services at 7:30 pm during the visitation, Sunday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted 12 pm Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dawn Robbins, Pastor of the Warrensburg First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will take place in the Warrensburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial may take the form of donations to the Horicon or Warrensburg Vol. Fire Companies.
