Warrensburg:
Elsie M. Wright, 82, of State Rt. 28, peacefully went into the arms of our blessed Lord, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at the Glens Falls Hospital.
Born February 26, 1924 in Rutland, VT, she was the daughter of the late John B. and Gladys (Bateman) Warner. Her paternal family tree was traced back to Peregrine White, who was born aboard the Mayflower in Cape Cod Harbor.
Her family moved to New York State, where she attended public school in Bakers Mills, Horicon and Chestertown, graduating from Chestertown High School in 1942.
During the WW II years, she worked as a telephone operator for an upstate telephone company. She then attended Albany Business College from which she graduated in 1946. After college, she was employed at the Rankin Law Firm, the Hamilton News and as office manager for the Curtis Publishing Co. all in the city of Albany. While residing in Albany, she was an avid member of the Albany chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club.
She moved back to Chestertown in 1957 and was employed as office manager at Northern Lumber Co. in Riparius.
Elsie married Walter S. Wright, Jr. on July 3, 1958 and the couple resided at their homestead in Warrensburg since 1959.
Her cooking and baking skills were fabulous and she enjoyed many outdoor activities including skiing, ice skating, picking wild berries and hiking. She was an accomplished gardener and particularly excelled at raising, caring for and harvesting her annual crop of scrumptious blueberries. Watching the many wild birds that frequented the feeders in her front yard was one of her favorite pastimes.
Noted for her helpfulness, unselfishness and generous kindness toward others, Elsie always put other people’s needs ahead of her own. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and she will be sorely missed by her whole extended family.
Elsie was an ordained deacon of the Warrensburg First Presbyterian Church.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Rodney, William and Jack Warner and her sisters, Evelyn Fish and Mildred Burton.
Survivors include her husband, Walter of 47 years; her sons, Craig Wright of Warrensburg, Scott Wright and his wife, Pat of Greenfield Center; her bother, Robert Warner of Chatham; her sister, Eleanor Twiss of Warrensburg; her grandson, Eric Wright and his wife, Amy of Glens Falls; three great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews.
At Elsie’s request, there are no public calling hours scheduled.
Private family graveside services will be held in the Warrensburg Cemetery with the Rev. Alan Brokaw officiating.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Warrensburg First Presbyterian Church, Warrensburg, NY 12885 in Elsie’s memory.
