Obituary of Nellie Inez Mitchell

Please share a memory of Nellie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

MINERVA:  Nellie I. Mitchell, beloved wife of Donald R. Mitchell for 64 years, peacefully passed away in her sleep at home on January 11, 2025.

Nellie was born at home on November 5, 1944, to the late Chancey and Florence (Hammond) Wells in North Creek, NY. For nearly 25 years, she served as a school bus driver for the Minerva School District, where she enjoyed singing with the children during their bus rides.

Shy by nature, Nellie had a deep love for gardening, the wilderness, camping, and caring for the family property. Her strong faith in God guided her on her journey to the gates of heaven. Nellie delighted in playing guitar alongside her dad and family. She cherished spending weekends camping with her young children. Nellie was always there to lend a hand to her neighbors and took great joy in working on projects with her sister, Marilynn. She also loved hiking the Adirondacks with her beloved husband, Donald, and sharing countless family hikes in the mountains.

Besides her parents, Nellie is predeceased by her sister Rosalyn Gadway.

She is survived by her husband, Donald R. Mitchell; children Larry S. Mitchell, Mark D. Mitchell, Eric (Diane) Mitchell, and Rebecca (Robert) O’Brien; many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings Charles (Barbara) Wells, Marilyn Hammond-Betz, and Terry (Karen) Wells; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Nellie’s family would like to thank Kerrie and David Vanderwarker for all their love and support through the years.

In following with Nellie’s wishes, there aren’t any services scheduled.
