Obituary of Gary Ernest Lamy

WARRENSBURG:  Gary Ernest Lamy, 74 years old, passed away on May 10, 2024 at Albany Medical Center due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. His family was at his side.

Gary was born in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada on July 27, 1949 to the late Ernest Alfred Lamy and Helen Grace (Pollock) Lamy. 

Gary attended Blue Creek Elementary School in Latham and Warrensburg Central School.  At age 16 he pursued a career in welding through the Federal Job Corps program in Utah and Kentucky.  He was proud of completing his high school diploma through the GED Program after returning from the Job Corps.

Gary’s employment included time at Taylor Welding of Glens Falls, The NYSDOT Bridge Crew in Warrensburg, Carpentry work with Mike Moon including travel to Louisiana and Mississippi, he was an over the road trucker for a time period, traveling from coast to coast.  He learned the tree surgeon business with Barlett Tree Service of Danbury Connecticut.  He returned to the area in 1977 and was self-employed.  Gary could be found doing any task required in the building industry.  At one time he worked in the oil fields of Prudhoe Bay, Alaska.  He was especially noted for his work of tackling large tree removal projects and over his career he repaired every church steeple in the Town of Warrensburg.

He was an avid snowmobile rider enjoying trips with brother Fred and friends in the Adirondacks and Quebec to include the Gaspe Peninsula.  For years he provided help to the local snowmobile clubs with trail development and maintenance.

Gary was also an avid motorcycle rider and enjoyed trips to the Canadian Maritimes, Quebec, Ontario and cross country to see brother Lynn in California. Gary was most at peace when he roamed the woods of the Adirondacks.  He was an avid hunter and a seldom equaled woodsman.  He was a Canadian by birth and an Adirondacker by choice.

Besides his parents, Gary is predeceased by a brother Ernest Richard Lamy (Rose).

He is survived by brothers Frederick C. (Rose) Lamy and William E. (Linda) Lamy of Warrensburg and brother Lynn O. (Shirley) Lamy of Riverside, California.  He was Uncle Gary to Dan, Matt, Steve and Jennifer Lamy of Riverside, California, Richard Lamy of Collingswood, N.J and Brett (Shari) Lamy, Ron (Laure) Lamy, Carrie (Chris) Dooley, Kim (Scott) McKenna and Stacey Gutowski.  He had several Grand nephews and nieces.  He had many close special friends.

His family would like to thank the emergency responders, the Air Medivac unit and the Albany Medical Center Trauma Unit for their compassionate care of Gary as he faced life ending injuries.

Friends are invited to call on Gary’s family on Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 11am – 1pm at Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A memorial service to celebrate Gary’s life will be held at 1pm. Internment will follow at the Warrensburg Cemetery, Hudson Street, Warrensburg.
