Gene was such a kind man. That's what I remember most about him. When I met him at Johnsburg, we realized that we were both at Southold High at the same time and shared a student. I was the Teacher of the Visually Impaired and he was her coach in Phys Ed class. Small world Gene. Until we meet again!

The most dedicated person on the team was never a player, it was Geno.
It was senior year during basketball season and Geno was assistant coaching for the girls varsity team. A few minutes before practice was supposed to start, I got a call from Geno and he told me in a nonchalant manner that he got into a little accident with his truck and won’t be making it to practice because his was in the ambulance. Shocked, but glad he was okay, I told my Coach and turns out 3 other girls didn’t show up to practice. Geno was the only one who called to let us know he wouldn’t be there. Thats how dedicated Coach Geno was, and you bet he was right back at practice the next day.

Gene had touched so many people at JCS and beyond with his presence. My sons were honored to have him as a coach and I was honored to have worked with him at our school. His selfless commitment to both our school and community will never be forgotten. Gene was one of the great ones!! ❤️
