JOHNSBURG: Catherine V. Hitchcock (Harrington), aged 76, of Johnsburg, NY, peacefully departed into the loving embrace of her son on January 8, 2024.
Cathy was born on April 10, 1947, in Cannan, CT, to the late Orbin and Catherine (Francis) Harrington. Despite leaving school in eighth grade to care for her siblings, Cathy discovered her innate gift for caregiving – a quality bestowed upon her by God. On June 19, 1964, at St. James Catholic Church in North Creek, NY, Cathy united in marriage with the love of her life, James Hitchcock, Jr. Their union was blessed, and they cherished 59 years of marriage.
Cathy undertook the most challenging yet rewarding role as a wife and mother, finding boundless happiness within her family. She excelled as the greatest wife, mother, and grandmother imaginable.
Cathy and Jim were avid travelers, exploring the United States with their camper, with Cathy particularly cherishing fall camping trips. Sharing the joy of Blue Grass music and volunteering with Adirondack Blue Grass League was a shared passion with Jim. A dedicated member of the Johnsburg Methodist Church, Cathy also found joy in cooking, shopping, and the art of planning and hosting parties. She held a special affection for Elvis. Despite her varied interest, Cathy’s greatest love was her family, and she took immense pleasure in sharing cherished family traditions with them. “Mom was a beam of light to all of us and always taking care of her family’. She was our rock and kept us all in line.”
In heaven, Cathy is warmly greeted by her son James Hitchcock III, along with her sisters Mary Robillard and Josephine McKittrick, her brothers Charles Harrington and Orbin Harrington Jr., and brother-in-law Joel Hitchcock.
Those left to cherish Cathy’s memory include her husband, James Hitchcock Jr., daughter Judy Hitchcock of Gansevoort, and grandchildren Brittany Gage of Saratoga Springs, Nicholas Gage, and Kari Gage, both of Gansevoort. Cathy was blessed with two very special sister-in-laws, Shirley Harrington of Saratoga Springs, and Deborah Harrington of Queensbury, who were more like sisters to her. Additionally, beloved cousins John (Jeannette) Harrington of Newcomb and Tommy Hopkins of South Carolina hold a special place in her memory.
Cathy’s family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Cardiac Unit, T6, staff at Glens Falls Hospital for their compassionate care and kindness shown to Cathy and her family. The exceptional dedication of the staff on T2 and T5 is also deeply appreciated.
Friends may call on Cathy’s family from 2pm – 5pm, Monday, January 15, 2024 at Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main Street, Warrensburg. A funeral service will be held at 5pm with Pastor Arnold Stevens officiating. Family and friends will be gathering after the service at Marsha's Restaurant, Main St., North Creek, NY.
Burial will take place in Bates Cemetery, Johnsburg in the spring.
