Obituary of Lillian F. Cleveland
Please share a memory of Lillian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
CHESTERTOWN: Lillian F. (Baker) Cleveland, aged 90, formerly of Chestertown, NY, and most recently a resident of the Washington Center in Argyle, peacefully passed away on December 17, 2023, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Lillian came into this world on December 18, 1932, born to the late Chephis and Lillian (Granger) Baker in Peru, NY. After completing high school, she embarked on the journey of marriage, joining hands with Willie L. Cleveland on June 2, 1951. Their union endured for 58 years until his passing in 2009.
Lillian dedicated over 25 years of her life to the role of clerk at Brown’s Shoe Store in Warrensburg, NY. Beyond her professional endeavors, she embraced a significant role as a Boy Scout leader and den mother during her free time. As Willie transitioned back to driving tractor trailers after retirement, Lillian accompanied him on the road, embarking on numerous adventures together.
In her later years, Lillian developed a spontaneous spirit, often taking impromptu road trips to visit her daughter in Arizona without prior notice. Her love for reading was a constant companion throughout her life too.
Lillian is remembered and survived by her children: Steve (Brenda) Cleveland, Stella (Edward) VanNess, and Shawn (Paula) Cleveland. She leaves behind several grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In addition to her family, Lillian is fondly remembered by special friends Violet Tennyson, as well as Henry Frasier, who held a special place in her heart.
Lillians’ family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to Barb and Ed Moehringer for their unwavering care and support extended to Lillian throughout the years. Their kindness and dedication have been a source of comfort and are deeply appreciated.
