Obituary of Robert M. Towne

RIDGEFIELD: It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Robert M. Towne of Ridgefield, CT, who passed away peacefully at home on October 18, 2023, at the age of 95. 

Born in Providence, RI on November 16, 1927 he was the son of the late Arnold C. Towne and Marion (Pierce) Towne.  He enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Northern Italy, graduated from Paul Smith’s College majoring in Forestry in 1952. Robert married Ann (Crossman) Towne in 1954. Robert was an executive with the Boy Scouts of America for 36 years where he was known for his kindness, friendship, leadership and dedication to Scouting and Camp Read. 

Robert now joins Ann and his daughter JoAnn Towne who predecease him. 

He is survived by his children, daughters Jeri Lee Towne of New York, Barbara (Paul) Payne and son John “Jack” Towne both of Ridgefield, CT. Grandchildren Jody Peterson (Colin Hislop), Vanessa Hatstat, Dominick Neglia, David (Erika), Thomas (Allie), James and Steven Payne and great grandchildren Brittney and Brianna Benaitis, Blake Hicks and Mason Payne.

A graveside service will be held on November 3, 2023 at Noon in Pottersville Cemetery, Pottersville, NY.
