Obituary of Alice Marie Dunkley

Please share a memory of Alice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Bakers Mills:

After a long but courageous battle with emphysema, Alice Marie Dunkley, 76, passed peacefully with her children by her side on Wednesday, September 27th, 2023.

Alice M. Dunkley was born November 8, 1946, to Marie and Rexford O’Dell in Glens Falls.   Upon graduation from Johnsburg Central School in 1965, Alice married the love of her life, Eugene Dunkley, on October 30th.  Together, they raised their children Amy (Bruce) Cleveland, Deborah (Vincent) Nevins, Samuel (Jennifer) Dunkley and the late Robert Ball, at their home in Bakers Mills.

Alice was the true heart and hero of her family.  She worked tirelessly, for many years, creating a home for all to feel welcome in.  Amidst being a dedicated wife and mother, Alice would often be found crocheting the unimaginable, from sunup to sundown.  Education is something that Alice took great pride in.  In her adult years while working, she persevered and graduated from Adirondack Community College in 1992.   Alice’s professional career with Cornell Cooperative Extension at Warrensburg, continued for many years after and she was proud to retire from there in 2004.

Being a giver is Alice’s greatest gift.  She volunteered countless hours for The Alpha One Foundation, COPD Foundation as well as the local Historical Society.  Genealogy and her family heritage was something that also kept Alice busy.  Alice was very intrigued by this, and she spent many years on a quest, searching for family connections from years beyond her time.

Alice’s family was her greatest joy in life.  Her grandchildren: Jon (Brandi) Tucker, Cassandra (Josh) Leddick, Mark Cleveland (Julia), Megan (Alex) Mitchell, Shawn Nevins, Cole (Kendria) and Ella Dunkley, Jade, Devin Ball and Chelsea (Chris) Fish.  As well as her step-grandchildren: April, Robert and Jessica Cleveland and several great-grandchildren.  In addition, Alice’s family includes her brother, Marvin (Barb) O’Dell, and her special feline companion Sophia.

Alice was predeceased by her husband Eugene A. Dunkley, parents Marie and Rexford, infant son Anthony Eugene, son Robert Ball, grandson Alex Ball, great-grandson Carter Tucker and several aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Our family would like to gratefully acknowledge our wonderful caring extended family and friends, your support and caring are greatly appreciated.
