Obituary of Agnes M. Straight
BAKERS MILLS – It is with sadness that the family of Agnes Straight is announcing her passing on September 17, 2023.
Agnes was born August 2, 1928, the daughter of the late William “Johnnie” and Ethel (De Mors) Steves. Agnes was a lifelong resident of Bakers Mills, being born in the house where she lived. Agnes attended a one-room school house in Bakers Mills and then attended and graduated from North Creek High School in 1946.
Agnes was a Co-Leader of the Blue Bells 4-H Club with her longtime friend, Mary Persons. Agnes attended Sodom Community Church. Agnes also cared for several elderly people in the community.
Agnes married Robert Straight on May 14, 1972 in South Glens Falls. Robert predeceased her on October 4, 1990. Also predeceasing Agnes is her brother, Clifford Steves, her half-brother, Claude Steves, her granddaughter, Brittany Hitchcock and her great-grandson, Xayden Rey Lopez.
Agnes is survived by her five children; Sheila Morehouse, Daryl Hitchcock, Darlene (Les) Rogers, Scott Hitchcock and his companion, Anita Morgan, and Shelly (Donald) Van Nostrand. Agnes is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, several step-children, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call on Agnes’ family from 4pm – 7pm, Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A funeral service will be held at 7pm after calling hours at the Funeral Home.
Burial will take place on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at 10am in Bates Cemetery, Johnsburg, NY.
