ATHOL:

Cecil G. Vopleus, 93, of Athol, NY, passed away surrounded by family on July 14, 2023 after a lengthy illness.

Cecil was born on July 10, 1930 in Orange, Pennsylvania to the late Cecil and Minnie (Montrose) Vopleus.  Cecil was one of seven children and grew up in the Orange area.  He married the love of his life, Wanda Rozzell on September 12, 1949 and moved to Huntington, Long Island, where they raised their two boys Robert C. Vopleus and Donald L. Vopleus. They had 61 wonderful years together. 

Cecil, Wanda and their two boys moved up to Athol, NY in 1974 where he was a carpenter by trade.  He and his crew built the SS Morgan dining boat at the Sagamore Resort in Bolton Landing, NY.  Cecil was known for building many homes in the surrounding area.  He ran and owned multiple businesses throughout his life.  After retiring Cecil and his wife spent many wonderful winters in North Carolina. Cecil enjoyed coffee and family gatherings around the table and fires.

Besides his parents, Cecil was predeceased by his wife Wanda and son Robert Cecil; sisters Athea, Vivian, Jennifer, Alverta, Madeline. 

He is survived by his son Donald and wife Myra; grandsons Robert D. Vopleus and his fiancé LeAnna and Joshua J. Vopleus, all of Athol; great grandchildren Elsie, Tempie, Evan, Kody and Mason; and sister Toots.
