GLENS FALLS: Robert M. Swain, 68, of Glens Falls passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, June 25, 2023 surrounded by family. Born February 8, 1955, Bob was the son of the late Burke A. Swain and Jean (Swanson) Culver.

Bob graduated from Johnsburg Central School in 1973. He was a gifted athlete and excelled in basketball, baseball and soccer during his high school years. He was also an avid downhill skier. Bob held a number of different jobs in the years following, locally and as far south as Florida and out west in Wyoming. After making his way back to the northeast in 1995, he was hired by Tri-City Rentals in Queensbury and became part of the maintenance team at Regency Park. Bob really enjoyed his job; he was well-liked by his co-workers and by many of the tenants throughout his time there. He was very handy, easy going and enjoyed helping people. It was at Regency where he met Kim White, who later became his wife and was the mother of their son, Connor. He retired in 2022, after 27 years of dedicated service.

Bob was a life-long Green Bay Packers fan and in addition to football, he liked watching college basketball and NASCAR racing. Bob was a Harley man and thoroughly enjoyed taking his bike out for long rides on back roads, or up to North Creek to say hello to long-time friends. If the weather wasn’t good, he drove his truck instead. He loved the rides, the scenery and the peacefulness of the area. North Creek would always be home for Bob.

Bob was a quiet man, a gentle giant, with a terrific sense of humor and a unique vocabulary that his siblings remember well. Some of their favorites are wuzzled, meals that he described as “good duffel” and cattywampus. Bob enjoyed cooking dinner for Connor, often experimenting with new recipes. They saw each other every day and any time spent with his son, Bob cherished.

As a cancer survivor of 20 years, Bob quietly persevered throughout the adversity that came his way. He had an incredible inner strength that never quit. Bob was a good father and stepfather, the best of big brothers, a true and loyal friend to many, and an all-around great man. He will be missed by those who had the privilege to know him.

Bob was predeceased by his wife, Kim W. Swain.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Connor Swain of Glens Falls; his devoted sister Susan Swain of Albany; his brothers Burke (Pook) Swain and Kenneth Swain, both of Many, LA; his stepdaughter Molly White and son Liam of South Glens Falls; his stepson Sean White (Ellen) and daughters Morgan and Iris of Queensbury; his aunts, uncle and cousins; his dear friend and special person, Penny Stout; and his cat, Shadow.

Friends wishing to honor Bob may donate to the North Country Hardship Fund. Please send checks to NCHF, PO Box 101, North River, NY 12856 and include “Bob Swain” on the memo line.
