Obituary of Viola May Goodnow

POTTERSVILLE: Viola May Goodnow, 77, of Pottersville, NY, passed away on December 3, 2022, at Elderwood Ticonderoga after a long battle with cancer.

Viola was born on September 14, 1945 to the late Charles and Lettie (Jackson) Goodnow in Glens Falls, NY.  Viola went to school in Glens Falls and after leaving school received her GED and began her 27 year career working as a seamstress at J&J Lingerie Factory in Glens Falls, NY. 

Viola’s greatest accomplishment were her family whom she loved with all her heart. When not spending precious time with family and friends, Viola loved bingo, cards, crossword puzzles and Yahtzee. Viola was known to read the bible often, watch NCIS crime show, spend money shopping and love on her grandpets.  Viola was a collector of Native American décor, especially wolves and dream catchers

Viola is survived by her daughter Beth and her significant other John Umber of Pottersville; son she claimed as her own, Joe Terrio and his significant other Jackie Coffin of Whitehall; sister Joan (Tom) Welch of Queensbury; grandchildren Kimberly (Alan) Cobb of Port Lyden, NY, Austin Wood of Orlando, FL, Merissa Umber and her significant other Jimmy Graves of Schroon Lake, Jessica Morehouse of Fort Edward, Kiara Umber of Chestertown, Scott Coutermarsh of Pottersville and John Umber Jr. of Pottersville; soon to arrive great grandson Greyson Harrison and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Viola’s family would like to thank the staff on the Adirondack Unit at Elderwood Ticonderoga for their care and kindness during Viola’s last days. Also, a thank you to Dr. Stoutenburg at C.R. Wood Cancer Center for his care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers donations in Viola’s memory can be made to St. Jude Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 and Shriners Hospital, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607

A celebration of life and burial will be held in the spring of 2023
