A sudden news today, I am so sorry to hear that Richard passed away.
We met in the summer of 2003, after that we kept contacts to each other by writing letters.
Richard, you were a warm and interesting man. You always brought sunlight to me and kept telling me that I was special.
I miss your sweet corns, I never had the chance to eat them again.
Even we were far apart, I will always keep you in my mind.
Wish you are the happiest angel in the heaven without any pain.

I grew up on Peaceful Valley Road with my family and we were very close neighbors of John, Catherine and Richard Stewart. How true that Richard was conceived, born, died and lived in the same home . As a young child I will never forget one night when we had a chimney fire at the Severance homestead and my mother, Jan, Scott and myself were bundled up and rushed to the Stewarts home while my dad stayed behind to call the fire dept and extinguish the fire. We were welcomed there and felt safe til we could return home later that night. How I miss those special times when neighbors cared for one another! Richard could always be seen walking along Peaceful Valley Rd. or Sodom Rd.as he called it, and was given God's special gift of enjoying the outdoors and beautiful creation God had created for him each new day! Fondly, Wayne&Cathy Kimmerly, Crossville, TN.

Richard was one of the nicest men I ever met.He would bring freshvegs to my gramma, they were friends. I loved rootabeggys and he would bring me a couple. He had a kind soul and he always visited with gram . He taught my grandson how to May his own flies so he learned How to tie them . He was proud that Richard taught him. I could go on and on but just know we all loved him and he will be missed by everyone. Fly high Richard and God be with u. Thanks for being u

I first met Richard while working at Garnet Hill Lodge in the 90’s. I typically worked in the restaurant, but one year I had the chance to work in the sugar bush alongside Richard. Though we were a generation apart, we had much in common, and the friendship that began that winter lasted until his death last week. We occasionally visited and spoke on the phone, but we mostly wrote letters. Richard’s letters were a mix of stories, humor, advice, and observation. Among many other things, Richard was a sensitive, thoughtful, reflective person who understood perfectly the humor and sadness of life. I feel lost knowing I will never again find another letter from him in my mailbox. I wish I had written more, visited more, and hope Richard knew how much he meant to me, to us all. I love you Richard…

When many of us were children,. Richard worked at the North Creek Ski Bowl. He knew us all by name and loved to watch us learn to ski . He was often seen shoveling and helping beginner skiers near the edges of the rope tow. Every St Patrick's Day, Richard would dye his beard and mustache bright green..
You were fun to know and very helpful to many people....Rest high on that mountain my friend....

Thoughts and prayers sent to the family from Virginia. Fond memories of him taking me fishing growing up. He nicknamed me Sam cause he didn’t believe in taking girls fishing. Even made me a belt that said Sam on it. Whenever he saw me it was hello Sam… Lol RIP Richard. Say hi to mom and dad for me…
