Obituary of Marion E. Persons

OLMSTEDVILLE: Marion E. Persons, 84, passed away Saturday, Septmeber 11, 2010 at Albany Medical Center of injuries sustained from a motor vehicle accident. Born December 16, 1925 at the family farm on Del Culver Road, in the Town of Chester to Lee and Della (Colvin) Knickerbocker. Marion graduated from Pottersville Central School and spent all of her adult life with the love of her life, Norman A. Persons, living her entire life in the area. In the early years she worked as a waitress at several area eateries and later retired from the Town of Minerva as their Social Services representative. She enjoyed taking care of her home crafts, such as quilting, knitting, and sewing. She was a tireless volunteer for such organizations as the Minerva Vol. Fire Dept. Auxiliary, Minerva Historical Society, Minerva Baptist Church, and the Adirondack Tri-County Nursing Home Auxiliary. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by one sister, Doris Vanderwarker, and three brothers; Steven Ingraham, Preston Knickerbocker, and Erskel Knickerbocker. Survivors include her husband, Norm; sisters, Della Shiell of Queensbury, and Carol Bleickhardt of Pottersville; brother, Vernis (Beverly) Knickerbocker of Pottersville; daughter, Brenda Persons of Green Island; sons, Edgar (Paula) Persons of Oakville, CO, and Malcom (Cathy) Persons of Olmstedville. She had six granddaughters; Maria, Tina, Nicole, Wendy, Sarah, and Letitia, who will all act as her pallbearer. She also had 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on the family from 5 to 8 on Thursday evening, September 16, 2010 at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main Street, Warrensburg. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am, Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Ray Lloyd, interim pastor of the Minerva Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Federal Flats Cemetery on Federal Flats Road in Olmstedville. Family and friends are invited to the Pottersville Fire House immediately following the burial for a time of sharing. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in her honor to the Minerva Baptist Church, or a charity of ones’ choice.
