Obituary of Vera G. Gregory

Warrensburg: Vera G. Gregory, 82, of Main Street, passed away Saturday evening, August 9, 2008 at Glens Falls Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born July 9, 1926 in Manhattan, she was the daughter of the late John and Yolanda (Bizarre) Williams. Vera married her childhood sweetheart, Louis T. Gregory, upon his return from WWII on September 13, 1947. The couple started their family in Brooklyn and after the birth of their first four sons, moved to Cambria Heights, Queens where they completed their family of seven children. They also resided for 15 years in East Meadow, Long Island before retiring to the North Country in 1982. Vera was a Communicant of St. Cecilia’s RC Church in Warrensburg, also a member of The Red Hats, the Lady’s Guild, Hospital Guild, and the Warrensburg Senior Citizens. Her favorite pastimes were finding bargains at GARAGE SALES, quilting, and spending time with her family. Besides her parents, her son, Michael, passed away in 2003, and her brother, Roger Williams, also predeceased her. Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Louis T. Gregory of Warrensburg; her six children, Donald Gregory of North Bellmore, Robert Gregory and his wife Laurine of Northport, Daniel Gregory and his wife Stephanie of East Meadow, Irene Jurek and her husband Tom of Queensbury, David Gregory and his wife Laurie of Bellmore, and Mary Sawyer and her husband Ken of Saratoga; 10 grandchildren; her brother, John Williams of Norfolk, VA, her sister, Gertrude McDermott of East Meadow, her daughter-in-law, Arlene Gregory of North Merrick; her sister-in-law, Joanne Williams of Farmingdale; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call on Vera’s family from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, Tuesday, August 12th, at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main Street, Warrensburg, NY 12885. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 am, Wednesday, August 13th, at St. Cecilia’s RC Church, Warrensburg, with Father Paul Cox officiating.
