Please share a memory of Jean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Canandaigua: Jean M. Chapin, 92, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 3, 2013 at The Stanton Nursing Home in Queensbury with her daughter by her side. Born November 14, 1920 in Rochester she was the daughter of the late Lowden and Catherine (Selbert) Ulrich. Jean graduated from East High School in Rochester and worked for General Motors, Inc. Jean was an avid card player who loved to socialize, entertain, and be with people. She took great interest in fashion trends, enjoyed shopping, and was an accomplished seamstress. Her greatest joy, however, was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. Jean married Dr. Fred Chapin, who was not only her husband, but her best friend, and the couple spent 44 years together before his passing in 1986. Besides her parents and husband, Jean is predeceased by her brother, Lowden Chapin. She is survived by her daughter, Gail Lawson and her husband, Tim of Warrensburg; a son, Glenn Chapin of Roswell, GA; her grandchildren, Kate Lawson of Rochester, Todd Lawson of Warrensburg, Michael Chapin of Atlanta, GA, and Frederick Chapin of Statesboro, GA; and her niece, Pat Gerbasi of Farmington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4 pm, Thursday, November 7, 2013 at St. Cecilia’s RC Church, 3802 Main St., Warrensburg with Fr. Paul Cox, officiating and Sister Linda Hogan, homilist. Friends may call on Jean’s family one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Jean’s family would like to thank Sylvia Hagerman for her limitless support, the staff at Quail Summit in Canandaigua, and the caregivers at The Stanton Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in Jean’s name to the Warrensburg Scholarship Association, 103 Schroon River Road, Warrensburg, NY 12885.
