Now that you have crossed over to the other side, you are no doubt with Terry once again - let him know brother Eddie and I will be there before long, just make sure the trapline of all traplines is laid out for us, we'll do all the skinin'.......... Thank-you, David Alexander, for opening up this digital page at your funeral home, for all of Johnny Thorpe's friends to write in to. I was overjoyed to find this page. There is a great need for it, because JT's sudden passing has caused great distress for many. Johnny was a wordsmith, if you read his articles and ads, and the words and thoughts his friends and families leave here will ultimately help to tell the true story of JT's legacy. As I have said before, music was part of JT's DNA, so grab a Gordon Lighfoot CD, and listen to "Pony Man", (JT was a horse farrier in his younger days, and was initiated into the Adirondacks Painted Pony Rodeo's Ranches Wranglers and Rodeo's Hall of Fame in 2014,) or, listen to Lighfoot's "If You Could Read My Mind." Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard's "Poncho and Lefty" will always make time stand still for me now, when I hear it. JT - May you find "The Real Deal" up in Heaven, and may the music, and dancing, never stop. I'll continue to "Get It Right" for you. I promise. Miss You Now and Always, Your Best Friend, Personal Photographer Forever, and Trying to Get it Right for You and Them, Suzie / Sue Clark

I had the pleasure of having JT befriend me through our mutual respect for horses, hand carved art, swap meets (I still want that blanket you scooped up on me JT!), antiques and the soul and heart of our dear friend Sue. I knew JT to be humble yet filled with great stories. A man of few words yet those words were filled with wisdom. JT had a twinkle in his eye for the ladies, and they loved to smile a mile for him. I am a better person for knowing him and I am thankful for the messenger that brought us together.

Very sorry for Jonny's passing, he lives in many of my most cherished memories from my youth. Many wonderful memories from my teen years trapping & selling furs and ginseng root to Jonny at his "lure shed" behind the Painted Pony Rodeo, making about $2500 in today's dollars each winter starting 1974 age 14. When I was a child in late 1960's my family was occasionally invited by Dr. Phillip Comstock, the longtime Glens Falls dentist, to visit Dr. Comstock's camp in Hague NY, where he absolutely loved to play home movies for us of Jonny Thorpe trapping.

Johnny, though I never got to know you as well as I would have liked, and only got to talk to you briefly while in passing, your presence at our NYSTA conventions will be greatly missed. You were a giant figure among the trapping world. Not just in New York, but around the country. All one had to do was mention the name "Johnny" in trappers circles, and everyone knew you were talking about the legendary Johnny Thorpe. God Bless you Johnny, we will miss you.

My condolences to Johnny’s family. I had the honor of working with Johnny in the New York State Trapper Education Program. At the time, the program was coordinated through the Warren County 4-H Program. He positively affected scores of teenagers within the county. Teens within the 4-H Adirondack Guide Program were encouraged to attend his courses; not necessarily to make them trappers, but to learn from a true expert about wildlife habits and habitat. To the teens this quiet, knowledgeable man, with his ability to read and teach “wildlife sign” made him truly, without exaggeration, a living Crocodile Dundee!

Billy & Family; Jim & family; ... and all ... For years I have enjoyed the various Totems throughout town of your dads. I am thinking of you all today. I wrote this for your dad and for all of you .... Someone so loved has gone before Life, never to be the same No new carvings to adorn his door His quill rests, - no longer, he pens his name ... Writings and wisdom's of trapping and trails As his life you reminisce …. Live in colored memory, never to pale With just one great honor, being this ….. Tell his stories, recount each one Tales and travels of days gone past Share them preciously with daughters and sons Forging these memories always to last ... The greatest honor to heart and spirit Is just to speak his name Share his life with sons and daughters As you carry on your fathers flame ... May the sun warm your heart to ease the ache The stars carry your sadness away May the flowers fill your senses with peace and hope forever wipe away your tears … above all, may memories, friends and family make you strong Love you guys, Johanna M. W. H.
