Obituary of Bernice M. Edmunds

Glens Falls: Bernice M. “Bernie” Edmunds, 80, of Leonard Street, completed her journey to Heaven, Sunday, June 7, 2015 at Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born July 31, 1934 in Morrisville, VT, she was the daughter of the late Florence (West) Walden and John and Adelaide (West) Walden. Following her graduation from Johnsburg High School, she started attending nursing school, earning her RN certification. Bernice married Douglas L. Edmunds on July 9, 1960 Canaan, CT. She began her career as a nurse for Dr. Rose in Minerva, and later began working with Dr. Falkenbury in Glens Falls for many years. She eventually became the head nurse at The Hallmark in Queensbury, currently known as The Stanton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center until her retirement. Besides spending time with her family, she enjoyed the couple’s annual camping trips to Maine and Vermont with their motor home, and arts & crafts including needlework. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her daughter, Angela Jean (Edmunds) Kilmartin. She is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Douglas L. Edmunds of Glens Falls; her step-children, Lonnie Bolio, John Edmunds and Larry Edmunds; her brothers: Robert Walden, Frederick Walden and his wife, Sharon; John Walden, Jr. and his wife, Kathy; her sisters: Joan Loomis and her husband, Bucky; Cora Mae Richards and her husband, Bruce. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. At Bernice’s request, there are no calling hours scheduled. A graveside service for her family members will be conducted at 3 pm, Thursday, June 11, 2015 in Warrensburg Cemetery, where her earthly remains will be laid to rest with her daughter, Angela. Bernice’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and nurses at the C.R. Wood Cancer Center, The Stanton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, as well as the Warren County Public Health nurses for the outstanding care she received during this difficult time.
