Warrensburg: Mary Ellen (Farrell) Reed, 71, of Lake Ave., passed away unexpectedly Thursday, November 13, 2014, after a three year battle with several health related issues. Born May 24, 1943 in Rutland, VT, she was the daughter of the late George Farrell, II, and Mary Ester (Whittemore) Farrell. Mary was a graduate of Warrensburg Central School, as well as the BOCES School of Cosmetology, where she obtained her beautician license. She married her high school sweetheart, Gerald Reed on June 22, 1963 at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Warrensburg. Mary served two terms on the Warrensburg School Board of Education in the 1980’s, and volunteered much of her time to many organizations in the community, such as the Booster Club, and was an active force in the early development of the Youth Little League, as well as The World’s Largest Garage Sale. Besides spending time with her family, Mary enjoyed gambling, walking, fishing, and could often be found sitting on her front porch, waving to friends. In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her children, Melissa and Lynn Anne Reed, and her siblings, George Edward Farrell, III and Judy Ann (Farrell) Scherer. She is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, Jerry Reed, of Warrensburg; two children, Shelly Durkin and her husband, Roger, of Warrensburg, and Jay Reed of Queensbury; two granddaughters, Judi Durkin and her companion, Justin Hull, and Jennifer Durkin; a grand-dog, Khloe; and her best pal, her blind black cocker spaniel, Bonnie. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
