Wevertown:
Gig C. Slater, 67, lost his courageous battle with cancer, Monday, September 8, 2014, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Born June 22, 1947 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Carson and Hilda (Greene) Slater.
Gig was a lifelong resident of the area, and graduated from Warrensburg Central School in 1964.
He was a local legend and a man of many trades; he was a self-employed logger and long time truck driver for MTS, he owned and operated Slater’s Gulf Station and managed Mosher’s Garage for several years, he also served as Thurman Town Justice.
Besides spending time with his family and reveling with friends, Gig enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, listening to music, doing yard work, splitting wood, racing, camping, and hunting, all while sharing his time between New York and Florida. He was a jokester who had the gift of gab and took great pride in his ability to make people smile.
He leaves behind his children, Wendy Davis and her husband, Dan of Lake George, Jodi Connally and her husband, Joe, of Bolton Landing, Travis Slater and his wife, Teresa, of Bakers Mills, Gina Vinarski of Hudson Falls, Chris Slater and his wife, Shannon, of Wevertown, and Michael Allison of Warrensburg, and his bonus daughter, Amanda May; grandchildren, Josh and Noah Davis, Evan Slater, and Regan Slater; siblings, Linda Moulton of Warrensburg, JoAnn Slater of Fort Edward, Kathy Haskell and her husband, John, of Thurman, Crystal Vaisey and her husband, Wendell, of Warrensburg; former wives, Marie Allison and Joelene Slater; “Ma”, Muriel LaPointe; and several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and close friends.

A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at 2 pm, Saturday, at the funeral home, with Rev. Ronald Allen, pastor of the Sodom Community Church officiating.
