Obituary of Lucy A. Wilcox

Lucy A. Mullane Wilcox, 101, formerly of State Route 28N, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014, at Adirondack Tri-County Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, in North Creek.
Born January 21, 1913 in Yonkers, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Ann Wilkins.
In 1938, as a young lady, Lucy and her family relocated to Minerva, after spending their summers in the area.
She worked at the Minerva Post Office and was also a school bus driver; it was during this time she met and married Jack Mullane in 1951; he fell ill and passed away untimely in 1975.
Upon the formation of the Minerva Rescue Squad in 1956, Lucy was the first female attendant on the Ambulance, and later became a certified First Aid Instructor. She played an integrate role in the creation of the Minerva Fire Co. Auxiliary in 1960, becoming the organization’s first President and was name Auxilian of the year. Lucy was instrumental in the department receiving a Blood Typing Program, which was stationed at the Olmstedville Firehouse; this before the days of the Minerva building. She was very active in several fund raising events for the Fire & Recuse, and was on the Firemen’s Spring Dance Committee, Good Will Committee, and was a longtime volunteer with the American Red Cross for many years. Lucy was also involved in the Minerva Civic League, where she held the position of Treasurer, and was a member of the Minerva Historical Society. In 1975, within a year after opening its doors, Lucy, along with several ladies in the North Creek area formed the Adirondack Tri-Country Nursing Home Auxiliary, where she again, became the organization’s first President, then served many years as Treasurer. She enjoyed organizing the annual flea market and Christmas Bazaar, as well as spending time with the residents and taking them on trips.
Lucy married her second husband, Marshall “Mark” Wilcox on November 20, 1983; he passed away October 26, 1997.
Lucy was an overall dedicated community volunteer that lived a full, rewarding life.
Besides her parents, Lucy was predeceased by her husbands, and a sister, Mae Francisco.
She is survived by extended family members and her many friends.
Friends may call on Lucy’s family from 5 to 7 pm, today (Tuesday), May 20, 2014 at Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main Street, Warrensburg.
A graveside service to celebrate her life will be conducted at 11 am, Wednesday, at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Irishtown.
All members of the Minerva Service Organization as well as the Adirondack Tri-County Nursing Home Auxiliary are requested to meet at the cemetery for the committal service.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in Lucy’s memory to Minerva Fire and Rescue, PO Box 924, Minerva, NY 12851 or the Adirondack Tri-County Nursing Home Auxiliary, 112 Ski Bowl Road, North Creek, NY 12853.
