William "Bill" Truesdale, 91, of The Moorings passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at his beloved home.
Born December 21, 1921 in Castlewellan, Ireland, he was the son of the late Francis and Julia “Kate” (Pottinger) Truesdale.
Bill is a WWII veteran having served with the Royal Air Force.
He immigrated to the U.S. from County Down, Northern Ireland in 1947.
Bill proudly served 22 years with the NYS police, retiring in 1976. His career was highlighted by assignment to the mounted horse detail with "Mr. Bones", performing numerous parades and State Fair patrols. He remained actively in touch with his many trooper friends through the Retired Trooper Association, Troop G Chapter.
He enjoyed his retirement years to the max with many hobbies, ventures, a life long love of horses, and driving the local byways for hours at a time with his dog, Peggy.
Bill is survived by his wife of 40 years, Dorothy Truesdale of Diamond Point; his children, Patricia Shuff and her husband, Bill and son, David of Niskayuna; Sara Truesdale of Hartford CT; and Stephen Truesdale and his wife, Barbara of Austin TX.
A private ceremony will be held on June 8, 2013 at the St. Sacrament Episcopal Church, Bolton Landing.
