Obituary of Laurie Ann Gregory-Grovenburg

Please share a memory of Laurie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Queensbury: Laurie Ann Gregory Grovenburg, 42, of Manor Drive, passed into the arms of our Lord Monday, May 23, 2011 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer. Born July 3, 1968 in Newcomb, she was the daughter of the late Helen I. (Lawrence) and William I. Gregory, Sr. She was proud of her roots, and appreciated growing up in the heart of the Adirondacks. Laurie lived her adult life in the Glens Falls, Hudson Falls, and Queensbury area. Her interests in life were simple; she enjoyed fishing, camping, deer hunting, skiing, gardening, cooking, and her collection of frogs. She got a great thrill out of driving sports cars, and could be regularly spotted with the roof down, sunglasses on, and her hair blowing in the breeze. Her preferred meal was Chef Boyardee cheese pizza and a Pepsi, with fried brook trout or venison coming in a close second. She loved NASCAR’s #20, Tony Stewart and the NFL Superbowl. Laurie wasn’t afraid to get down on the floor, to play silly games with her grandbabies. She adored her children, each one with a different unique personality. Laurie was always willing to help a person in need, for this reason, she was easy to love. Laurie was the beautiful baby sister of William Gregory, Jr. of North Carolina, Michael Gregory of Chestertown, and Carolyn Hall of Fort Ann. She also leaves behind her beloved children; Justin L. Grovenburg, Patrick H. Grovenburg, and Laurie Ann Harwood; step-daughters, Tionne and Carrie; and 7 grandchildren, as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends, and her cat, Red who was always at her side, with a soft purr. In the last year of her life, she has fallen in love with fiancé, Dennis Edmund of Missouri. Their relationship was as good as gold, and her dream was to be able to marry him. Dennis truly loved her, and treated her like the lady she was. Though her life was cut short, she lived every day to its fullest, with no regrets. Friends may call on Laurie’s family from 4-6 pm Saturday, May 28 at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A memorial service to celebrate her beautiful life will following visitation at 6 pm Saturday at the funeral home with Sister Linda Hogan, Parish Life Director of St. Cecilia’s RC Church in Warrensburg officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of Laurie’s family. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in Laurie’s memory to the American Cancer Society or Feed the Children Foundation, P.O. Box 36, Oklahoma City, OK 73101. Laurie’s family would like to thank all of those who provided care for her in her final days. Please visit www.alexanderfh.net for online guestbook, condolences and directions.
