I first met Shirley when I was a teenager. My parents, Frank and Mary O'Connor, visited them often in Brant Lake during the 1950s when Art took care of the Boy Scout Camp. My dad helped Art with plumbing problems and afterwards we had many a good party. My oldest brother Nick and Shirley shared the same birthday and we always gathered at their house because their children were very young. We would socialize with lots of good food and many laughs.Shirley was a fantastic cook and her kitchen reminded me of a restaurant with pots and pans busy cooking and baking non stop. Shirley made her own Christmas Cards every year and that fascianted me.They were original and unique. She always had some project going and even brought her knitting when ever she and Art came to our house to visit. She made a wooden painting of the O'Connor Coat of Arms and my father was very proud of it and it always hung on the wall at our house. The last time I saw Shirley and Art was in the late 1990s. My mother and I met them at the Meal Site in Chestertown and had a grand chat.

Dear Geoff, Denise, Diane and family. I want to share my love and blessings with you for the life of a great lady. I could just see her walk through the "pearly gates" and dad standing there saying, "What took you so long?" I have fond memories of our time in Brant Lake, her advice, her artistry, and always the smile. Know she's in the loving arms of her Loving God. God bless you all!

I loved my grandmother very much. She was an incredible woman, she was an artist, a teacher, a matriarch, a friend, and an all around asset to my life. I feel that alot of my personality is due to her. I will miss her greatly and if i can be half the woman she was i will be blessed. I thank my lucky stars that my kids also had the honor of knowing and loving her. She will be missed.

I had Mrs. Boland as an art teacher when I was in 8th grade at Hague Central School back in the 1970s. She challenged me to put more effort into my work. While I am not artistic, that's a lesson I apply to all I do.
