Obituary of John E. La Carrubba

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
North River: John ‘Loc’ La Carrubba, 65, of North River, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, November 15, in the loving company of his wife and daughters. He was born June 21, 1950, in Tarrytown, NY, the son of the late John E. and the late Marie (Delfay) La Carrubba. Loc was an excellent human being, who freely offered his friendship and chose to see the good in everyone. He was honest, kind, and trustworthy, living by two rules: treat others as you want to be treated and, if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything. Loc was happiest at home, surrounded by friends and family, with good food, good music, storytelling, and laughter. He built strong, lasting relationships. His loved ones will miss his patient, steady calm, his sense of humor, and his warm presence. Loc worked as a successful painting and decorating contractor, specializing in historic restoration. He painted many well-known landmarks in the Hudson Valley and the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake. He enjoyed his work and liked sharing his knowledge and expertise. He painted the Old Dutch Church in Sleepy Hollow, NY, where he married his honey, Dolores (Bode), on October 12, 1997. In 2000, they found their little piece of heaven in the Adirondacks and in 2004, became fulltime residents of North River. Loc took immense pride in his home, working tirelessly to improve the house and property. Loc loved music and played guitar every day. He enjoyed hosting parties and making paella. He looked forward to long walks in the woods with his dog, Hudson. Loc was an accomplished skier. He learned to ski as a teenager while living at the United States Army Garrison in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Loc valued his community and was proud to be a member of the North River Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by his wife Dolores, their daughters Molly (Garrett) Penistan and Meghan (Chad) Flewwelling, his stepmother Resi Peter La Carrubba, and his siblings Deborah (Michael) Nielson, Michael La Carrubba, and Steven (Penny) La Carrubba, his nephew Ronald (Lisa) Forsyth and niece Adelina La Carrubba, and many more beloved family members. He is pre-deceased by his parents and his mother-in-law Eleanor (Donohue) Bode. Everything is everything. Friends may call on Loc’s family from 12 to 4 pm, Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. At Loc’s request, please bring a memory to share. A video tribute to celebrate his life will conclude the calling hours at 3:30 pm, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Loc’s name to the C.R. Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital, High Peaks Hospice Queensbury, or the North River Volunteer Fire Department.
