Although I did not know Mildred personally, I felt I knew her through her daughter, Pat, and had hoped that one day I would get the opportunity to meet her. That opportunity has passed, to my regret, but perhaps only in this world. To my very good friend, Pat and her husband, Greg, my thoughts are with you and your family at this time. Please forgive me for not being there when I should have been at this difficult time. I am here now . . . knowing what you are facing and that the road ahead will be a bit bumpy for a while. If you need a shoulder, or an ear - I'm here! As Mildred's obituary reminded all of us, "think of her and smile".

May you find comfort in the memories that are yours to cherish always, and strength in the companionship of those who share your loss.... I have learned never to underestimate the healing power we all have. It is always there to be used for the highest good. All those sleeping in their graves will wake up and sing for joy. As the sparkling dew refreshes the earth, so the Lord will revive those who have long been dead."-Isa. 26:19.

I learned how special Mildred was through her daughter Pat. Pat and I were co-workers and soon was privileged to meet Mrs. Decker on my many visits to Pat's home.
At the time I was a new mother, far away from home and very unsure about my parenting role. Many times Mildred calming manner, thoughtful words of advice, and quiet demeanor helped to be a better mother to my children.
As I never had a grandmother around as a child, I saw Mildred as my surrogate grandmother. My kids referred to her as "the smiling grandma".
I will only miss her presence but her kindness, grace, and loving spirit lives within me.
Thank you Mildred for being my grandma. I will always love you.

Jeanne, Pat & Kathy...and your families:
We send our love to all of you. I remember how unconditionally your mother accepted me into your extended family when she barely knew me. Just to know that I was important to Jeanne was all she needed to know. That's how big her spirit was/is. I know this is a huge loss...and yet she is a huge spirit who lives on in all of us who she touched.
We are sending all of you so much love and light during this huge life transition.

I have known Mildred for at least 45 years. We worked together at the Evergreen Nursing Home in Warrensburg for several years. During that time we became very good friends. She was a very special kind of lady, a lady that always was kind to others and shown so much love.
There were times we didn't get to see one another for a long while, but when we did,it seemed like we were always in touch. I am so grateful to have had a short time with her at West Mount Health Infirmary where I continue to work. We'd sit and talk of old times, take walks outside and just spend time together. In fact a couple of days before she died, she atempted to give me a last hug, which made me feel so special. She was famous for her smiles and hugs.
Mildred, even though you are not gone, you will never be forgotten. You made such an impresson in my heart. I love you...
I appreciated all the girls and their families, such special people. Thank you for sharing your mom to others.

The last few lines of Mildred's obituary couldn't have described her better. My life is richer for having her in it...she was like a second mom to me when I needed it and even though in later years, I didn't get to see her as much as I would have liked, she'd always greet me with a smile on her face and that twinkle in her eye. Every time I witness an act of kindness, I'll always think of her. The world would be a better place if it could take a page out of Mildred's handbook of life.
My love to her family...sorry I couldn't be there..I'll be home for a visit, but it will be a week too late.
Blessings,
Wanda Ross

Millie was one of the nicest people I have ever met. I doubt that anyone who ever met her failed to be charmed by her genuine kindness and generosity of spirit. I will miss her wonderful fudge and her many stories about life with her husband Cliff, "The Cowboy"!
On behalf of everyone at the Warrensburg and North Creek Health Centers I would like to express my condolences and respect to Nancy, who has proven herself to be as devoted a daughter as any mother could ask for. I am glad that Millie is probably reunited with her cowboy.
