Obituary of Dorothy A. Hewitt

North Creek: Dorothy A. “Dot” Hewitt, 102, of Ordway Lane, passed away, Monday evening, July 31, 2006 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born July 1, 1904 in Johnsburg, she was the daughter of John Noble Armstrong and Martha (Putnam) Armstrong. Dot was a lifelong resident of the area and married, Frank E. Hewitt on March 30, 1929. Frank passed away on May 2, 1972 after 43 years of marriage. Dot was a longtime member and enjoyed attending the Johnsburg and North Creek United Methodist Churches. She was the oldest member of the North Creek American Legion Post 629, Ladies Auxiliary. and was a former member of the Queens Village Chapter 325 Order of Eastern Star and the Wevertown Rebeccah Lodge. Her favorite pastimes included reading, puzzles, knitting, crocheting and baking. Besides her husband, her son, Frederick James Hewitt, her three sisters, Adelene O’Byrne, Gladys Hills and Evelyn Wade, her granddaughter, Victoria Dodge and son in law, Richard Dodge have all predeceased her. Survivors include her five children, Hilda Dodge of Bolton Landing, Franklin Hewitt and his wife, Patty of Olmstedville, Sybil Utterback and her husband, Url of Lake Alfred, FL, Dorothea Potter and her husband, John of Warrensburg, Harris Hewitt and his wife, Charlotte of Chestertown,; six granddaughters, three grandsons, 12 great grandchildren, nine step grandchildren, 11 step great grandchildren, and one step great great grandchild. As well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call on Dot’s family from 5-8 pm Thursday at the Alexander Funeral Home, Inc, 4479 State Rt. 28, North River. Members of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary will conduct a brief service at 7 pm Thursday evening at the funeral home during the visitation. Funeral services will be conducted 10 am Friday at the North Creek United Methodist Church, Main St., North Creek with the Rev. Diane Marquit, Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Bates Cemetery, Johnsburg.
