Obituary of Catherine M. Wemett

North Creek: Catherine M. Wemett, 74, of Austin Pond Road, passed away peacefully, Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs. Born April 11, 1936 in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Mary (Markowski) Schmidbauer. Catherine attended of Our Lady of Angels (OLA) grade school and a 1954 graduate of Vincention Institute High School (VI). She began her working career with the NYS Department of Education and later worked as a recording secretary and stake out observer for the FBI in Albany. Catherine married Robert L. Wemett on September 6, 1958 and the couple relocated to Schenectady. There she worked as the executive secretary and office manager for the Superintendent Niskayuna Board of Education for five years. In 1963, she followed her husbands work to Stratford, CT, where she became the executive secretary to the President of Marketing for Austonal Investment Castings in New Jersey. Catherine left Austonal Investment Castings in 1967 to become the secretary to Business Office Manager of the Darien Board of Education and was quickly promoted to administrative assistant until 1973, when she became the School Business Administrator. She left the Darien School District in 1983 to work as the Chief Financial Officer for Sterling and Sterling, a third party insurance administrator in Miolford, CT. Catherine remained at Sterling and Sterling until her retirement in 1994, when her and Robert relocated to North Creek. She was a very active member in her community. She began working in the Gore Mountain Ski Area’s marketing and sales office until 2005. In 2010, the couple moved to Prestwick Chase in Saratoga until Catherine became ill and was admitted into the Wesley Health Care Center in 2011. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her sisters: Mary VanDenburgh of Niskayuna; Ann Schmidbauer of Scotia; and Martha Oliver of Albany. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 52 years, Robert Wemett of Saratoga Springs; nieces and nephews: Michele DeForge of MD; Charles Oliver of Albany; Christine Urschel of Voorheesville; Mary O’Brien of VA; Mark VanDenburgh of Charlton; Michael VanDenburgh of Schenectady; Sue Ann Clothier of Queensbury; Edward Mathews of PA; Sandra Curtis of CT; David Mathews of CT; Denise Buckley of CT; Faith Patterson of SC; Brett Wemett of SC; Cheryl Owens of SC; along with several great nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Catherine’s family from 10 am to 12 pm, Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main Street, Warrensburg. A funeral service to celebrate her life will follow the visitation at 12 pm, Wednesday at the funeral home with Sister Francesca Husselbeck officiating. Rite of committal will take place in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
