Minerva:
Joan Marie Walker, 70 of State Rt. 28N, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2007 at the Adirondack Tri-County Health Care Center in North Creek surrounded by her loving family.
Born May 4, 1936 in Crown Point, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Elsie (Delong) Gonyo.
Joan was a crafter most of her life making stuffed animals and dolls. She loved to sew and enjoyed her plants. She enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, and having fun. Joan loved her pets. She was fast to laugh with a quick smile and could always cheer everyone up.
Joan's courage was evident through the years of her illness, going through it without a complaint.
Joan worked at a sewing factory for a few years, in the fabric department at Newberry's, eventually managing the department. She became a friendly home party demonstrator and also worked as a teacher's aid at Minerva Central School.
She was active in the Minerva Auxiliary and Grace Bible Fellowship Church.
Joan was the first one to offer a helping hand and will be sorely miss by all that knew her.
Besides her parents, Joan is also predeceased by her first husband, William Green; two children, Wanda and Kevin Green; 4 sisters, Yvonne Gonyo, Linda Bennett, Sheila Bush and Doris Savage.
Joan is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, John C. Walker of Minerva; four sons, Randy Green and his wife, Robin of West Covina, California, Douglas Green and his wife, Lynn and Tim Green of Minerva, Jack Green and his wife, Dawn of Olmstedville; three daughters, Cyndy Hammond and her husband, Bruce of Olmstedville, Patricia Harris and life partner, David Dimick ,Yvonne Barnett and her husband, Jeff of Minerva; one step-son, John Walker Jr and 2 Step-daughters, Linda Burdenko and Sandra Stanton; grandchildren, Tambrina Taylor, Randy Green Jr., William Green, Chelsea and Briana Hammond, Jessica Green and her fiancee, Ryan Coyle, Jordan, and Massena Green, Nichole ,and Bryan Harris, Kylie Dimick, Matthew Barnett; five great grandchildren and two step grandchildren; one aunt, Mabel Gonyo of Minerva, two brothers, and sister-in-laws, Marvin and Joyce Gonyo and Steven and Juanita Gonyo of Minerva, four sisters, Gloria Bush of Henderson, Nevada, Raydene and Cyrus Labatore of Ticonderoga, Donna Baker of Lake Luzurne, and Vanessa and Larry Dunkley of Glens Falls; Brother in law, Robert Walker of North River and Sister-in-law, Caroline and Jerry D'Avignon of Florida; many nieces , nephews, cousins and friends will morn her passing.
Friends may call on Joan’s family from 3-5 pm Saturday at the Alexander Funeral Home, Inc, 4479 State Rt. 28, North River.
Funeral services will follow the visitation at 5 pm Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Chad Haneman, of the Grace Bible Fellowship Church in Olmstedville officiating.
