Obituary of Gertrude E. Morehouse

Bakers Mills/Ruskin, FL: Gertrude E. Morehouse, 95, formerly of Johnsburg, passed away peacefully, Monday, January 22, 2018 surrounded by her loving family at her daughter’s home in Ruskin, FL. Born September 14, 1922 in German, NY, she was the daughter of the late Alvin and Grace (Parker) Marvin. She married Eugene Morehouse and together managed dairy farms in Homer and Killawog with their children. She eventually retired as a machinist for Smith Corona in South Cortland. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her beloved husband, Eugene Morehouse; son, John Morehouse; daughter, Judith Soule; granddaughter, Marshella Morehouse; and siblings, Edna Marr, Florence Cox Welch, Gerald Marvin, Raymond Marvin, George Marvin, and Alberta Lamb. She is survived by her beloved children, Janette (Philip) Nielsen of Ceres, VA, Jean (Dennis) Libbey-Musson of Cortland, Marshall (Shirley) Morehouse of Marathon, Leslie Morehouse of South Otselic, Roger (Trisha) Morehouse of Homer, and Faith (Edward) Gordon of Tampa, FL; her brother, Richard Marvin of East Freetown; as well as 27 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call on Gertrude’s family from 11 am to 1 pm, Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. A funeral service to celebrate her life will immediately follow the visitation at 1 pm, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Bates Cemetery, Johnsburg.
